“Danilo Pérez is the perfect musician to dedicate the twenty-seventh edition of the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest”, expressed Luis Álvarez, Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest’s producer and vice president of the Liquor Division at Méndez & Compañía.
Perez again dipped into "The Real McCoy" album in "Passion Dance," the cohesion of his playing with Cannon and Mela recalling the immensity and rhythmic momentum of some of Tyner's best work. And Perez's concluding solo represented a tip of the hat both to Chicago and to Tyner's wide-ranging musical sensibilities, Perez improvising on portions of his "Suite for the Americas," which Perez premiered at the Chicago Jazz Festival in 1999.
In the greater jazz world, Danilo Pérez is a respected pianist. In his homeland of Panama, he's a national icon and cultural ambassador, and not just for his artistry.
Danilo Pérez, Brian Blade, and John Patitucci are gold standards in the field of elevated jazz. Together, these Children Of The Light have been touring with jazz legend Wayne Shorter all over the world as a part of his quartet. On September 18, they’ll release their first album as a piano trio, in loving dedication to the man who greatly influenced them along the way.
